So, my recommendation should be to configure the BMC in order to reach the host in other way like this:

~(keystone_admin)$ system host-update <hostname> bm_username=user_name bm_password=<password> bm_type=bmc
~(keystone_admin)$ system host-update <hostname> bm_ip=<bmc ip>.

Just remember that you should have bmc network on your infra.

Dear Elio,

From the STX R1.0 testplan:
https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/StarlingX/stx.2018.10_Testplan_Instructions

Testplan:
- An active controller can be power off/on via VM.

I want to know how to power off an active controller via VM?

I can't find any command about this.

Thanks

Hi Chen, it seems that you want to turn off the active controller, the system is protecting for doing that. That is because is saying that you need to lock it first.

My suggestion should be to swact controller in case that you have more than one controller nodes. If you don’t then you can try to turn it down using your BMC ip with ipmitool.

Besides that. Im guessing that when you say VM , it is a virtual environment. Then you can use virsh.

Please correct me if I’m making wrong asummptions.

Dear Yong,

=============================================================
[wrsroot at controller-0 ~(keystone_admin)]$ system host-power-off controller-0
Can not 'Power-Off' an 'unlocked' host controller-0; Please 'Lock' first
[wrsroot at controller-0 ~(keystone_admin)]$ system host-lock controller-0
controller-0 : Rejected: Can not lock an active controller.
[wrsroot at controller-0 ~(keystone_admin)]$
[wrsroot at controller-0 ~(keystone_admin)]$
=============================================================

I don't know how to power off an active controller via VM?

There's no Instructions about VM.?

Thanks

Did the test steps in this test_plan page answer your question?
Or you tried the steps but saw issues?
