Gerrit project rename window
Hi StarlingX community, I got a heads up from the OpenDev team that they are looking to Do gerrit project renames after the next OpenStack release and after the vPTG, around April 19. There were requests from this community before to do renames, but that didn’t happen at the time of the request. Are these Gerrit projects still in need to be renamed? If so, would the above timeframe work for the community? Best Regards, Ildikó ——— Ildikó Váncsa Director of Community Open Infrastructure Foundation
Hey Ildiko, Do you remember what gerrit project renames we/starlingx wanted in the past ? ( ... to be honest ... I am not sure what we are referring to when we say 'gerrit project names' ? ... you don' t mean opendev repo names do you ? ) Greg. -----Original Message----- From: Ildiko Vancsa <ildiko@openinfra.dev> Sent: Friday, March 1, 2024 12:49 PM To: StarlingX ML <starlingx-discuss@lists.starlingx.io> Subject: Gerrit project rename window CAUTION: This email comes from a non Wind River email account! Hey Greg and Ildiko, If this helps, I remember that in the past we discussed about renaming some of the StarlingX repos that have "armada" on its name, since we do not use armada anymore (since stx.8.0). The repos are mainly the ones in which we have our apps and I was able to retrieve from past conversations with Bob the following list with renaming suggestions: * audit-armada-app => app-audit * cert-manager-armada-app => app-cert-manager * metrics-server-armada-app => app-metrics-server * monitor-armada-app (*) => app-monitor * nginx-ingress-controller-armada-app => app-nginx-ingress-controller * oidc-auth-armada-app => app-oidc-auth * openstack-armada-app => app-openstack * platform-armada-app (**) => app-ceph-storage * portieris-armada-app => app-portieris * ptp-notification-armada-app => app-ptp-notification * rook-ceph => app-rook * SDO-rv-service => app-sdo-rv * snmp-armada-app => app-snmp * vault-armada-app => app-vault (*) Don’t think monitor-armada-app is maintained anymore. This might actually be able to be removed. Can rename at a minimum. (**) Initial naming was based on the assumption that we would include all platform apps here enabling helm charts as needed. This has proven to be incorrect as each app is its own repo. This contains only the bare-metal ceph application. * * Since those are all OpenDev repos, it might be the list that Ildiko was mentioning previously? Hi, Thanks Thales for providing the below list. @Greg: I think it’s OpenDev repos that folks asked me about. I do not have a list of repos that the community wanted to rename in the past, these discussions don’t always happen on the mailing list to be able to keep track. It would probably be good to get feedback from the project teams if there are any repos that still need renaming, and then get in touch with the OpenDev team to make it happen. Also, if any repos end up with new names, please don’t forget to update the projects.yaml file: https://opendev.org/starlingx/governance/src/branch/master/reference/tsc/pro... The only renames that I was aware of were the SYSTEM APPLICATION opendev repos that Thales referenced. Where the motivation was/is that we want to get rid of the 'armada' in the repo names because it is misleading/confusing because we have switched to use fluxcd in place of armada. I am '+1' on all the proposed repo name renames mentioned by Thales below. Only question ... will these renames break the builds of these repos ? Scott ? Davlet ? Bob ? Greg, With the rename, we’ll need to tweak some references within the repo. For example, with platform-armada-app Breaking changes that reference that repo required: * ./.gitreview:4:project=starlingx/platform-armada-app.git * ./.zuul.yaml:125: git_mirror_repository: starlingx/platform-armada-app * ./stx-platform-helm/debian/meta_data.yaml:8: SRC_DIR: ${MY_REPO}/stx/platform-armada-app * ./python3-k8sapp-platform/debian/meta_data.yaml:8: SRC_DIR: ${MY_REPO}/stx/platform-armada-app * ./helm-charts/upstream/platform-helm/debian/meta_data.yaml:15: SRC_DIR: ${MY_REPO}/stx/platform-armada-app/helm-charts/upstream/platform-helm * ./helm-charts/custom/ceph-pools-audit-helm/debian/meta_data.yaml:9: SRC_DIR: ${MY_REPO}/stx/platform-armada-app/helm-charts/custom/ceph-pools-audit-helm/ceph-pools-audit-helm/ceph-pools-audit Cosmetic changes needed: * ./.zuul.yaml:23: - stx-platform-armada-app-upload-git-mirror * ./.zuul.yaml:119: name: stx-platform-armada-app-upload-git-mirror * ./.zuul.yaml:122: Mirrors opendev.org/starlingx/platform-armada-app to * ./.zuul.yaml:123: github.com/starlingx/platform-armada-app * ./.zuul.yaml:128: secret: stx-platform-armada-app-github-secret2 * ./.zuul.yaml:132: name: stx-platform-armada-app-github-secret2 * ./stx-platform-helm/debian/deb_folder/copyright:3:Source: https://opendev.org/starlingx/platform-armada-app/ * ./python3-k8sapp-platform/debian/deb_folder/copyright:3:Source: https://opendev.org/starlingx/platform-armada-app/ * ./helm-charts/upstream/platform-helm/debian/deb_folder/copyright:3:Source: https://opendev.org/starlingx/platform-armada-app/ * ./helm-charts/custom/ceph-pools-audit-helm/debian/deb_folder/copyright:3:Source: https://opendev.org/starlingx/platform-armada-app/ * ./HACKING.rst:1:StarlingX Platform-Armada-App Style Commandments * ./HACKING.rst:8:Platform-Armada-App Specific Commandments Bob From: Waines, Greg <Greg.Waines@windriver.com> Date: Monday, March 11, 2024 at 10:10 AM To: Ildiko Vancsa <ildiko@openinfra.dev>, Cervi, Thales Elero <ThalesElero.Cervi@windriver.com> Cc: StarlingX ML <starlingx-discuss@lists.starlingx.io>, Church, Robert <Robert.Church@windriver.com>, Little, Scott <Scott.Little@windriver.com>, Panech, Davlet <Davlet.Panech@windriver.com> Subject: RE: Gerrit project rename window The only renames that I was aware of were the SYSTEM APPLICATION opendev repos that Thales referenced. Hi Jeremy, Thank you for following up on this thread and sharing pointers to some background information. This topic came up on the weekly community call yesterday. The conclusion was that while there is desire still to do rename a few repos, but there is no bandwidth within the community to adjust the build system and other pieces to apply the changes. Do you think it would be possible to have another round and cover the StarlingX repo rename requests some time during the Summer? Thanks, Ildikó

Absolutely, there's no rush. We like to batch these sorts of requests up when possible, in order to minimize the frequency of related disruptions, but generally schedule another as soon as there are new requests pending. We had only inquired because we've got some other repository renaming requests we're going to process soon, so if the StarlingX community was ready to proceed we wanted to give you a chance to get the specifics nailed down in advance. -- Jeremy Stanley
Hi Jeremy, That sounds great, thank you for confirming! I will reach out when the StarlingX community is ready to move forward with the renaming. Thanks and Best Regards, Ildikó
