Javier, thank you. I’m going to suggest a couple of things for you to try out, to get started. You can join our weekly community call. It’s on Wednesdays at 1400 UTC. Details are here: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Starlingx/Meetings. StarlingX is a big project so we’ve divided it up into sub-projects – each has a call of their own, listed on that page, that you could join as well. You should check out our wiki: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/StarlingX and our documentation https://docs.starlingx.io/ You can download and run a pre-built StarlingX image from here: http://mirror.starlingx.cengn.ca/mirror/starlingx/centos/2018.10/20181110/ou... You can find some instructions on how to install the image here: https://docs.starlingx.io/installation_guide/index.html. The document needs some changes, which we are working on as part of the Documentation sub-project. You will need a VM on a machine with lots of memory and/or a dedicated system to boot the image on – the image installs an OS and all of StarlingX. Myself and the community will be happy to answer any questions you have. brucej From: Javier Romero [mailto:xavinux@gmail.com] Sent: Thursday, January 31, 2019 1:41 PM To: Jones, Bruce E <bruce.e.jones@intel.com> Cc: starlingx-discuss@lists.starlingx.io Subject: Re: Contribution to the project. Hi Abraham,
Hi again Javier ☺ welcome to Documentation team!
Thanks for your attentiion and I can help on the documentation team if you need help there.
Here you have our Documentation Tree roadmap [0], please feel free to take a look. Based in the resources you have available and the priority of tasks, my suggestion for your short term and medium term tasks would be: 1. Go through " Developer’s Guide" to get your workstation setup [1] 2. Feedback new "Installation Guides" [Short Term] 1.1 See section "Installing and Configuring StarlingX with Containers" under [2] 3. SWIFT Configuration & Management [Medium Term] 3.1 Once you have exercised the installation and configuration, it is time to generate your first introductory guide for SWIFT, taking advantage of your experience. "Two" is being actively review now by our community and it will be translated from the Wiki format to the RST format to land under stx-docs [3] Please let this list know about improvements, findings, whatever you consider important, you will learn how to deploy StarlingX. When we have that new RST format, we will add you as reviewer (with Ubuntu Account obtained at [1]). "Three" We can have more details once you feel comfortable with tasks "one" and "two" on what the community is looking for, anyway, please take into consideration this is a great opportunity for you exercise the complete development cycle, from creating a first draft of a guide, through submitting your first patchset and finally, seeing it approved :)
Have a good day!
You too! [0] https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kvXEZl4XwNgHTYXPIcoZfKE4LBNcif4sBJdZ... [1] https://docs.openstack.org/infra/manual/developers.html [2] https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/StarlingX/Containers [3] https://git.openstack.org/cgit/openstack/stx-docs
Hi Víctor, Thanks forma your 2 cents! Will use them to buy a better hardware ;) BTW, I also teach network infrastructure in an IT institute from Argentina. Make a lab with OpenStack and Docker to let the students learn about IaaS, PaaS and SaaS. Have an auditorium at disposal if someday the StarlingX team want to make a conference to speak about the project. Hi Javier, This doesn't help you much right now, but just to let you know we are in the process of trying to set up some tagging for our issues and work items that will show if they are good for new contributors and such, like what many other open source projects do. Watch the list for updates related to that project. Thanks, Curtis On Thu, Jan 31, 2019 at 6:04 PM Javier Romero <xavinux@gmail.com> wrote:
