[Starlingx-discuss] Build of StarlingX ISO on CentOs System
Hi, Since the developers guide has the steps followed in making an iso image of StarlingX taking Ubuntu 16.04 as the host OS. Therefore all scripts need to be updated to reflect the corresponding centOS commands in the script. So is there any scripts available for CentOS development environment as well so we can refer and run it. So shall we go ahead with changes in script written for Ubuntu to work on CentOS. Any suggestion will be very helpful. Hi, While testing nova test cases we are able to make the Nova online successfully. However controller-0 is unable to communicate with compute-0(nova) and not allowing to add data interface on controller-0. Due to this issue we are not able to execute the remaining test cases for the compute (nova) and network can be run from controller-0.we also observe sub-functions are missing from the controller-0. We are following below link 1.https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/StarlingX/stx.2018.10_Testplan_Instructions 2.https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/StarlingX/Installation_Guide_Virtual_Environ... running command: "$system host-show 1 | grep subfunctions" does not return - "| subfunctions | controller, compute" Thank you, Rajesh Jha The information contained in this e-mail and any accompanying documents may contain information that is confidential or otherwise protected from disclosure. Hi, We have observed an unstable behaviour while running below scenario Setup- Virtual environment testing using kvm Mode "Duplex" (One active and one standby controller script setup_allinone.sh) Steps- 1. Followed steps in document "https://docs.starlingx.io/installation_guide/duplex.html#duplex" 2. Able to proceed till section "system host-unlock controller-0" command. After issuing this command system get reboot as per expectation but once it comes up availability status changed to "degrade" and alarm raised (screen shot attached). 3. Then we execute "destroy_allinone.sh" and "destroy_network.sh" command to cleanup the previous setup to build new one 4. After following same step in above documents till "sudo config_controller" command which was successful and after run "source /etc/nova/openrc" system get reboot again and again and nothing happening after instead of rebooting. Screenshot is attached below. CLI is no more available to the controller Thank you, Rajesh The information contained in this e-mail and any accompanying documents may contain information that is confidential or otherwise protected from disclosure. Hi Rajesh, There have been some changes recently merged I suggest to build again your ISO with the latest changes There were not screen shot attached, could you share them again? Could you verify the output from the cmd: nova service-list, verify the nova-compute services is up and enable? What is the output from system host-list? Hi Rajesh, May I assume that your looking at test case 245, "Add up to 4 compute nodes to a duplex deployment", which adds additional compute nodes to a all-in-one duplex install? M

We (Brian and I at Intel) initially developed the CentOS container approach to building StarlingX because what we had available to do builds were Ubuntu 16.04 systems. You could conceivably just run the build directly on CentOS systems without the container. This in fact is how many of the developers at Wind River work.
So shall we go ahead with changes in script written for Ubuntu to work on CentOS. Any suggestion will be very helpful.
I can see where using the container build process may be desirable even on a CentOS host, keeping things neat and clean, or if the version requirements do not exactly match. Generalizing the Ubuntu scripts to work on other distros is desirable but just not something that anyone else done before now. We would welcome contributions that broaden the availability of StarlingX. dt -- Dean Troyer dtroyer@gmail.com

I use Fedora 28 for my daily work and the only issue I faced was this one: https://storyboard.openstack.org/#!/story/2002560 So, the only OS specific steps are to create the builder container, which are the `make base-build` and `make build` commands. Once you have your container, then everything after the `./tb.sh exec` command should work. We can try to build the container on CentOS 7 to see is the steps work and update the documentation if it's needed.
So shall we go ahead with changes in script written for Ubuntu to work on CentOS. Any suggestion will be very helpful.
