[Starlingx-discuss] Docker is sunsetting the Free Team Organizations
Hi StarlingX Community, I’m reaching out to you with regards to Docker’s recent changes in their support services for open source projects. The main change for now is that Docker is removing their Free Team Organizations support option, that many open source projects have been using. You can read more about that here: https://web.docker.com/rs/790-SSB-375/images/privatereposfaq.pdf StarlingX signed up to Docker's Open Source program in 2021, and the StarlingX project on DockerHub is still tagged as ‘Sponsored OSS’. See here: https://hub.docker.com/u/starlingx The ’Sponsored OSS’ tag means that our files and images that are stored on DockerHub should not be affected at this time. However, if anyone has received any communication from Docker with regards to the StarlingX assets that are stored on DockerHub OR our open source tier subscription, please reach out to me! So I can look into potential issues and fixes to make sure we don’t experience any service disruptions. There are a couple of open source communities who are setting up alternative registries to store their images and artifacts. Please let me know if that would be in interest for StarlingX as well, and I will share some more information. Hi, I have a quick update on this topic. Docker announced today (March 24) that they reversed their decision on sunsetting the 'Free Team Organizations’ program: https://www.docker.com/developers/free-team-faq/ With regards to how they announced their original intent, we still need to keep a closer eye on their open source program as well. And prepare an alternate plan in case we need to take action. We can discuss it further at the PTG next week, as we already have an agenda item for the topic on Wednesday.
