[Starlingx-discuss] FW: Sanity Test - ISO 20181211

We recommend that all users of StarlingX use the October release ISO image [0]. The daily ISO images we are producing are test images that may or may not run. They have not been through a release test cycle. We do not guarantee that they are stable.

Providing OTA updates is an issue that has not been discussed in our community recently. The software is capable of it but relies on special builds to create the updates. We need to decide if our next release (ETA May’19) will be upgradable from the October’18 release and if so, plan the work.

I’m putting this topic onto the agenda for our January 15-16th community meet-up in Chandler AZ. [1]

The currently provided ISOs are all stable? or which version should I use? how this should work with the updates (stx-update-project) is not clear to me yet, but I am thinking about an OTA update solution with which I can keep my current stack up to date?!
These update options are basically a war decision for me, as I would like to go into a productive environment with starlingX.

Not entirely true, StarlingX has an update service so you can upgrade your deployment at any given time, I suggest you follow the stx-update project to get an idea of how that works.

If you have a deployment based on the latest stable release you are good to go. These daily builds are getting patches and code for features that are not ready for production nor fully tested until the next release cycle. We are basically fixing bugs being introduced as part of the normal development process.

I think you need to get a new ISO updated and deploy the system again.
Until now there is not a way to update the installation while it is running.

regardless of the fact that this build failed, if i already have an installation running, how do i get it up to date, are there patch files somewhere i don't know anything about?

------------------------------------------------------------------

This issue was found by our Robot test framework.
During config_controller, the suite copy a Config file from host to StarlingX system. Robot uses SSHLibrary keyword, such keyword uses sftp service to perform the transfer file. Such transfer failed due to sftp service is not working on the system.
