Milestone-1 Criteria: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/StarlingX/Release_Plan#Release_Milestones - Release priorities and major features defined. - High level resourcing secured. A list of proposed features is available at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/171PJAu9SykXm9h9Ny2IsZ8YMbhvEwOzuTbISWUMQhiE/edit#gid=1107209846 There are a few outstanding actions for the feature primes, but these are not blocking the milestone declaration: - Action: Feature Primes to fill in plan dates, spec dates & code merge dates & story IDs in the spreadsheet above. - This will help with the planning of the follow-up milestones for the release - Action: Feature Primes to add any other features being worked in their team - Action: Feature Primes to confirm the features highlighted in yellow or remove them if no longer planned Thank you to all community members who helped achieve this milestone. As we didn?t hit critical mass on today?s call we only went through some basic items. With the StarlingX 6.0 release now being available, the announcements, such as press release and the release overview blog post are now published. A few contributors to the project are working on a series of demo videos to capture the values that StarlingX delivers. The first demo video that captures patching on large scale with StarlingX is now ready to publish. The OIF team is working on uploading it to the Foundation?s Youtube channel and it will be linked to the website as well as an embedded video. All the notes from today?s call are on this etherpad: https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/2019_StarlingX_Marketing_Plans The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 15 at 12pm Pacific / 2pm Central. Among other recurring items, we are planning to have the discussion about the marketing team?s goals and plans for Q1, 2022. Thanks and Best Regards, Ildik? ??? Ildik? You can find the conversation archived here: http://lists.spi-inc.org/pipermail/spi-general/2021-December/ It was suggested that getting input from Debian Developers on the matter would be the next step, and so we had follow-up replies from a DD who does much of the OpenStack packaging in Debian, as well as another DD who is on the OpenInfra Foundation board of directors. Recently, I realized that StarlingX's effort to build a Debian derivative distribution is another opportunity to show collaboration between our communities. If there are any official Debian Developers active within StarlingX, a post to the spi-general mailing list (you'll need to be subscribed in order to avoid a typically lengthy moderation wait) with your thoughts on the proposal would be most appreciated. -- Jeremy Stanley -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... -- Jeremy Stanley From fungi at yuggoth.org Thu Feb 3 14:53:07 2022 From: fungi at yuggoth.org (Jeremy Stanley) Date: Thu, 3 Feb 2022 14:53:07 +0000 Subject: [Starlingx-discuss] Debian as an Associate Member of the OpenInfra Foundation In-Reply-To: References: <20220202145629.rpn5cjlx5k4uskgd@yuggoth.org> Message-ID: <20220203145306.x5r4kflriby4f2a4@yuggoth.org> On 2022-02-03 13:46:05 +0000 (+0000), Short, Charles wrote: > I am pretty sure we don't have any official Debian Developers > working on StarlingX but we would love to collaborate with Debian, > and possible contribute patches that we are carry back to Debian. And I know you're aware, but for the benefit of others on the list it's probably worth pointing out: if anyone in the StarlingX community who's become familiar with Debian's packaging tools and policies wants to go through Debian's "New Maintainer" process[*], being an official Debian Maintainer (or eventually a Debian Developer) can help get bug fixes and other patches upstreamed to Debian more quickly, particularly if they're for under-maintained packages where the maintainers are looking for a bit of help getting them up to date. Last week, we announced the next virtual PTG will be held virtually from Monday, April 4th to Friday, April 8th, 2022. We will have the same schedule set up available as last time with three windows of time spread across the day to cover all timezones with breaks in between. To signup your team, you must complete BOTH the survey[1] AND reserve time in the ethercalc[2] by end of day March 11th. We ask that the PTL/SIG Chair/Team lead sign up for time to have their discussions with 3 rules/guidelines: 1. Cross project discussions (like SIGs or support project teams) should be scheduled towards the start of the week so that any discussions that might shape those of other teams happen first. 2. No team should sign up for more than 4 hours per UTC day to help keep participants actively engaged. 3. No team should sign up for more than 16 hours across all time slots to avoid burning out our contributors and to enable participation in multiple teams discussions. Again, you need to fill out BOTH the ethercalc AND the survey to complete your team's sign up. If you have any issues with signing up your team, due to conflict or otherwise, please let me know! While we are trying to empower you to make your own decisions as to when you meet and for how long (after all, you know your needs and teams timezones better than we do), we are here to help! Once your team is signed up, please register[3]! And remind your team to register! Registration is free, but it's important that you sign up to let us know you'll be attending because that's how you'll receive event details, passwords, and other relevant information about the PTG. If you are in the middle of an installation, using a graphical installer, you can see the anaconda options at the bottom. At the bottom right, it says you can switch using Alt+Tab. If you do that once, you go to the number 2 listed there, a shell, and you don't need to log on to it. If you are not using a graphical installation, please describe in detail your installation process. The team felt that it is time to revisit its mission and goals to ensure that it operates efficiently and performs the tasks that support StarlingX the best from a marketing point of view. We discussed aims, goals and requirements towards marketing related activities and what the team thinks would be most valuable for the StarlingX project. We settled on the following mission: Achieve global awareness of the StarlingX project among organizations and individuals who design, build, operate or seek for infrastructure: ? Perception of the project: StarlingX is seen as a de-facto standard open source cloud infrastructure for edge computing and IoT applications and workloads. ? Awareness extends to companies, organizations and individuals understanding what challenges the project is providing a solution for, how and where it can be utilized and why it is better/different than other projects in the edge computing infrastructure space. On the next call we will discuss what the mission translates to when it comes to setting long term goals as well as goals that the team would like to achieve during 2022. We will also discuss the scope of our activities and metrics to be able to measure the success and impact of our activities. Due to a conflict for one of the key contributors to the team we are holding the next Marketing Team call next Tuesday (February 22) at 12pm PT / 2pm CT / 2000 UTC. For detailed notes and meeting details please see the following etherpad: https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/2019_StarlingX_Marketing_Plans Thanks and Best Regards, Ildik? ??? Ildik? Need to do a patch 2. Build Stability and length * Remaining stability issue has been resolved by Charles' patch submission * Build time still oustanding * Daily builds are being done * Cegn's Build and distribution need to be kept together due to licensing issue * Pulp work has finished, need to be integrated * Aptly has gaps in their APIs, but Pulp doesn't. So planing to switch over * Pulp may have OSTree plugin as well, need to verify. * Share hardware resources within a cluster, that is why we use miniq * Repository manager is the key to the resource sharing. STX Debian Integration Outstanding patch review: https://review.opendev.org/c/starlingx/tools/+/817691 2. Build System * Davlet has started looking at build system in K8N. * Not all dev builds need to be rebuilt. Mark will look into this. * Addition to LAT, HongXu and Eric are working through the issues * Aptly vs Pulp * Mark A. has talked to the Pulp maintainer * Mark's submission is completed. * Maintainer however is revamping testing code and switching over to different tagging. So not sure when this release is coming out. * Mark A. will let people know when this version is out, and time to switch from Aptly to Pulp (Pulp is also the based project for Red Hat Satellite) * Why switch? Aptly is not being maintained any more. Unfortunately, timing may not be ideal. 3. Kernel * Kernel Modules still need to bring in. Unfortunately, they are using forked version. * Mellanox and Broadcom use the same library/common library, RDMA, but different versions. So, there are some conflicts will need to be resolved * The fork version, who will be maintaining the forked version over time. Encourage folks to not use their custom fork. * Will need do a stable update soon, moving from current .74, to .100 (most recent). The gap is a bit large, so will need to make it more frequent (with gap of 10 versions) 4. Secureboot & Signing * Secureboot and Signing/repo signature in the same EPICs * Work currently is on signing. Will work on secureboot. since HongXu just finished fixed the PXE boot with LAT. So, folks will work on secureboot next. * Signing is for both kernel signing and module signing, repo signing. * signing: md5sum not as secured. start with mapping what Debian does. * Debian Security Manual: https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/securing-debian-manual/deb-pack-sign.en.html ?Next meeting: March 2nd, 2022 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Mary took a closer look at the review that failed promotion (https://review.opendev.org/c/starlingx/docs/+/829130). The cherry picks have merged & been promoted but it doesn?t look like the changes on master branch got promoted like we?d hoped. Looked at the same file in 3 branches, it shows that the master branch still does not have the change we want. master: https://docs.starlingx.io/dist_cloud/kubernetes/rehoming-a-subcloud.html scroll down to the end to see ?Contact Wind River Support? ? R5 branch: https://docs.starlingx.io/r/stx.5.0/dist_cloud/kubernetes/rehoming-a-subcloud.html looks good R6 branch: https://docs.starlingx.io/r/stx.6.0/dist_cloud/kubernetes/rehoming-a-subcloud.html also looks good Cherrypicking - discussing methods for staying on top of when this needs to happen. Add to each week. Tricky when branch is closed for tagging and then it reopens. Review authors can keep an eye out. Demo of QA checks? Wait till next week since we're all swamped. (24 Feb - 1 Mar) From Ghada.Khalil at windriver.com Thu Feb 17 01:18:49 2022 From: Ghada.Khalil at windriver.com (Khalil, Ghada) Date: Thu, 17 Feb 2022 01:18:49 +0000 Subject: [Starlingx-discuss] Minutes: Community Call (Feb 16. 2022) Message-ID: Minutes from the community call Feb 16 2022 - Standing Topics - Build - Last Build Failure Emails are from Feb 14 - http://lists.starlingx.io/pipermail/starlingx-discuss/2022-February/012784.html - http://lists.starlingx.io/pipermail/starlingx-discuss/2022-February/012785.html - From Scott: - No builds on Feb 14 & 15 - CENGN log partition was full - Freed up space and enabled automated log cleanup. - Builds have been successful since. - Sanity - Sanity is Green - Latest (Feb 15): http://lists.starlingx.io/pipermail/starlingx-discuss/2022-February/012789.html - Gerrit Reviews in Need of Attention - Nothing raised in the meeting - Topics for This Week - Separate the StarlingX projects on LP - Thiago Brito - Reasoning: - Some fixes spread across several projects (e.g. App rename stuff on config, distributedcloud and openstack-armada-app) and we have and using Partial-Bug doesn't really help to track cross project changes - Separating the projects, it would work like this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/keystone/+bug/968696 - The starlingx tenant on LP would serve to track all bugs from all projects - Discussion during the meeting: - Background: Issue arose when developers used Closes-Bug too pre-maturely and a bug was automatically marked as Fix Released before all the required changes merged in the different repos. The correct approach is to use Partial-Bug until all associated changes in the different repos are merged. - The proposal to create LP sub-projects is to address this issue and allow for duplicating bugs per sub-project - Note: Launchpad is not a one-to-one mapping to repos. - Concerns: - StarlingX is an integration project. The subprojects do not stand on their owner - StarlingX has many repos (>20) and this would result in a lot of sub-projects to be created and managed - There is no strong LP expertise in the community to do this and maintain it. The overhead is unknown and could be high. - This may also make it more onerous for people reporting issues to determine the correct sub-project. - Conclusion: - Agreed to stick with the status quo as no strong benefit was identified to offset the setup overhead. - Marketing Update - Ildiko / Greg - Team is revisiting mission/scope; want to be more strategic in 2022 - See email from Ildiko with the minutes: http://lists.starlingx.io/pipermail/starlingx-discuss/2022-February/012788.html - Participants are welcome to participate in the bi-weekly marketing meetings - Planning 6 demos in 2022; one for each of StarlingX core value-adds on the stx main site - One demo is already available - Patching in large scale deployments demo - https://youtu.be/B3uGlKLNoRE - ARs from Previous Meetings - Nothing still open from last week. - Open Requests for Help - bootimage.iso password / login - http://lists.starlingx.io/pipermail/starlingx-discuss/2022-February/012781.html - Appears to be resolved thru the mailing list - Nothing else brought up in the meeting From bogdan-iulian.andrei at intel.com Thu Feb 17 07:41:07 2022 From: bogdan-iulian.andrei at intel.com (Andrei, Bogdan-Iulian) Date: Thu, 17 Feb 2022 07:41:07 +0000 Subject: [Starlingx-discuss] Sanity Master Test LAYERED build ISO 20220216T065631Z Message-ID: Sanity Test from 2022-February-16 (http://mirror.starlingx.cengn.ca/mirror/starlingx/master/centos/flock/20220216T065631Z/outputs/iso/) Status: GREEN Helm-Chart used: http://mirror.starlingx.cengn.ca/mirror/starlingx/master/centos/flock/20220216T065631Z/outputs/helm-charts/helm-charts-stx-openstack-centos-stable-versioned.tgz =========================================== Sanity Test executed on Bare Metal Environment AIO - Simplex Setup 04 TCs [PASS] Provisioning 01 TCs [PASS] Sanity OpenStack 71 TCs [PASS] Sanity Platform 07 TCs [PASS] TOTAL: [ 83 TCs ] AIO - Duplex Setup 04 TCs [PASS] Provisioning 01 TCs [PASS] Sanity OpenStack 76 TCs [PASS] Sanity Platform 07 TCs [PASS] TOTAL: [ 88 TCs ] Standard - Local Storage (2+2) Setup 04 TCs [PASS] Provisioning 01 TCs [PASS] Sanity OpenStack 76 TCs [PASS] Sanity Platform 08 TCs [PASS] TOTAL: [ 89 TCs ] Standard External - Dedicated Storage (2+2+2) Setup 04 TCs [PASS] Provisioning 01 TCs [PASS] Sanity OpenStack 76 TCs [PASS] Sanity Platform 09 TCs [PASS] TOTAL: [ 90 TCs ] =========================================== Sanity Test executed on Virtual Environment AIO - Simplex Setup 04 TCs [PASS] Provisioning 01 TCs [PASS] Sanity OpenStack 49 TCs [PASS] Sanity Platform 07 TCs [PASS] TOTAL: [ 61 TCs ] AIO - Duplex Setup 04 TCs [PASS] Provisioning 01 TCs [PASS] Sanity OpenStack 52 TCs [PASS] Sanity Platform 07 TCs [PASS] TOTAL: [ 64 TCs ] Standard External Storage (2+2+2) Setup 04 TCs [PASS] Provisioning 01 TCs [PASS] Sanity OpenStack 52 TCs [PASS] Sanity Platform 09 TCs [PASS] TOTAL: [ 66 TCs ] Kind regards, Validation team [Logo Description automatically generated] Andrei Bogdan-Iulian Software Engineer PMCE TEAM Personal Mobile: +40 754905864 bogdan-iulian.andrei at intel.com Str. The first step would be to try manually applying the applications using the 'system application-apply' command. If the apply fails, there might be a reason in the log files (a new log file will be created in the /var/log/armada folder, depending on which application you are applying (nginx or cert-manager). Alternatively, a look at the /var/log/sysinv.log might also provide some clues if the apply fails. Please let me know if there are further problems with manual apply and any related logs. As we had low attendance we didn?t go into deep details on the topics. While a few people will be unavailable next Tuesday (March 1) for our next call, we agreed to try to make progress on that meeting with those of you who will be able to attend. Action items in the meantime: * Publish the Cert Manager LCM blog post on Tuesday (March 1) * Demo video planning is moving forward to cover more of the values and functionality that StarlingX is providing to its users Please let me know if you have any questions to any of the above. See you on our next call[1] on Tuesday (March 1) at noon PT / 2pm CT! Thanks and Best Regards, Ildik? [1] https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/2019_StarlingX_Marketing_Plans ??? Ildik?
