AIO-Simplex deployment configuration does not support worker nodes. There are system maintenance operations, such as upgrades or patching or controller configuration changes, for AIO-Simplex that do not support workers at an architectural level. If you need more capacity than AIO-Simplex, you could use AIO-Duplex which doubles your cluster capacity and does support additional worker hosts for increased capacity. This change will offer many benefits: * Enhanced security and less manual work by having platform certificates auto renewal with cert-manager * Enhanced security as cert-manager makes it easier to have certificates with shorter durations * Enhanced security by having HTTPS enabled by default * Having that said, there are some end-user impacts that are important for the community to be aware: * Due to the HTTPS enablement, the horizon URL will default to https://:8443 and not http://:8080 as it is documented today. * Also, because of HTTPS enablement, external scripts that connect to StarlingX REST API will need to be updated to use the HTTPS connection. We are tracking the documentation changes. Please take a look at the spec proposal https://review.opendev.org/c/starlingx/specs/+/827175 for more details. Ron says no, this doesn't apply to our tox.ini file. No changes needed. Standard for representing variable version numbers, i.e. nn.nn vs xx.xx vs???? vs etc? We want to reduce maintenance and not have to update version numbers each time. Do we prefer nn vs xx?? nn is preferred. We would like the pattern to match the context -- if we are showing 21.12 as nn.nn, then we should also show 21.12-01 as nn.nn-nn Add a note to the Usage guidelines? Perhaps add a caveat, something like:? Be aware that examples in this guide may show a?version number that is different from the current release. See the Release Notes for information on the current release. Maintaining FM events and alarms? events.yml?gets updated every release. Instead of updating so many doc files, suggest to annotate the yml file itself, add legend, etc.? But what if the user doesn't have internet access to get the link? Maybe deliver the HTML as a bundle.? Maybe write a script to process the events.yml to export it into a documentation-friendly format? Use the API publishing?mechanism as an example? Tabbed content This would be great to improve the user experience.? Ron is testing an open source plug-in for Sphinx that can do the tabs.? It is a calculated risk to try a free tool, but this one?seems stable, has been updated recently, and has an active user community. The main reason for this is to align these clients with Ceph Nautilus version. If anyone is using a private container registry to install from, please pull the following images and push them to your private container registry. New image and tag is: docker.io/openstackhelm/ceph-config-helper:ubuntu_bionic-20201223 Additionally, the older image will still be used if Rook is installed, as it was not upversioned. STX Debian Integration Outstanding patch review: https://review.opendev.org/q/topic:%22debian-build%22+(status:open%20OR%20status:merged * Please review 6 patches in the above link, patch review stalled. 2. Build Systems * Addition to ISO, we have a few docker builds. These docker builds can be added as pods. * Jim has some observations: * download from repo is using md5sum but now is switching to sha256 * Technical Debt clean up in the Kernel: * current kernel maintenance is using patching mechamism in CentOS method, maintain a yocto project branch to maintain kernel patch in the branch, rather than adding patch to packaging * Impacting day to day kernel work: Jim, Vefa, Jiping * Will write a story and add it to story board in StartlingX 3. SecureBoot and pkgs/iso Signing * Working on checksum for signing * OSTree has the functionality of retirving key and checksum key * LAT should trust the package from Aptly. Functionality will be there for k8n build, to checksum of the respo. * Shim/grub kernel module signing * currently working on PXE boot, and lagecy BIOs signing * So once the grub/shim has the signing mechanism, then booting should work * Working with Greg on the possible changes used in Debian. due not using signing server in VM, but using Vault in the cloud environment. 4. Kernel * work is pretty smooth, jinping, Vefa, and Jim are working on kernel modules * currently submitted patch last week for changing partiition size and setting defaults to allow smaller partitions, not allow / to grow too much * the kernel patch has been updated to stable tree from 5.10.74, to 5.10.99 (most recent) * still doing some clean up, will send the patches out for review. 5. Test * OS test automation is in place * Testing of the kernel has been put in place, and .99 kernel updates has passed the sanity testing. * Also collected cyclictest bechmark data as well for baseline comparison * Testing of the build and stx tools are under way -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Please submit your ideas through the Summit CFP tool [3] through April 8th. Don't forget to put your brainstorming etherpad up on the Berlin Forum page [4]. This is not a classic conference track with speakers and presentations. OpenInfra community members (participants in development teams, operators, working groups, SIGs, and other interested individuals) discuss the topics they want to cover and get alignment on and we welcome your participation. The Forum is your opportunity to help shape the development of future project releases. More information about the Forum [1]. The timeline for submissions is as follows: March 21st | Formal topic submission tool opens: https://cfp.openstack.org. April 8th | Deadline for proposing Forum topics. Scheduling committee meeting to make draft agenda. April 15th | Draft Forum schedule published. Crowd sourced session conflict detection. Forum promotion begins. The size of this team is usually 3 people to ensure that we have enough review bandwidth during the two election periods each year. As Bill Zvonar is no longer active in the community, his seat as election official needs to be filled as well, therefore we are looking for one volunteer from the community. The duties of an election official are seasonal. The list of activities include: * Prepare the list of eligible candidates and electorate for the TSC and PL/TL (when applicable) elections * Keep the election website up to date with the dates and details of the upcoming elections * Prepare and send out emails about the election timeline and steps * Review the nominations in Gerrit during the nomination period of the election * Set up and start the voting in CIVS (when needed) * Check the results with the current active TSC members and communicate the outcome to the community If you are interested in volunteering to become an election official or if you have any questions please reply to this thread or reach out to me. Thanks and Best Regards, Ildik? According to the following link, nVidia/Mellanox has stopped supporting ConnectX-3 cards such as the one you have (MCX384A) since driver version v5.1: https://docs.nvidia.com/networking/display/MLNXOFEDv512620/Release+Notes As noted at the aforementioned link, Mellanox OFED v4.9 LTS continues to support ConnectX-3 cards. StarlingX supports only the latest version of the Mellanox OFED drivers. Hence, StarlingX no longer ships with a version of the drivers that support ConnectX-3 cards. Also note that ConnectX-3 cards use the mlx4 driver instead of the mlx5 driver, as indicated here: https://docs.nvidia.com/networking/display/MLNXOFEDv494080/Introduction Thank you, Vefa On 2022-03-25 12:59, Khalil, Ghada wrote: > Hi Linda, can someone from the OS team comment on this? > > -----Original Message----- > From: Embedded Devel > Sent: Thursday, March 17, 2022 9:37 AM > To: 'starlingx-discuss at lists.starlingx.io' > Subject: [Starlingx-discuss] stx 6.0 aio mellenox connectX 40GB dual card > > [Please note: This e-mail is from an EXTERNAL e-mail address] > > i just deployed a stx 6.0 aio dual on bare metal yet after booting and logging into the system i dont see the mellanox connectX 40Gb interfaces i also dont see a mlx5_en kernel module to load > > server is a Dell C6220 with Dual-Port 40Gb/s QSFP Mezzanine Network Card MCX384A-BCAA 3CYRK > > -- > Sent with Vivaldi Mail.
