[Starlingx-discuss] Looking a command that changes Virtual host node MAC Addr.
Hi, ** Does anybody know how can I change a MAC Address for a Virtual host node? Hi Fernando, This mgt port is used since at the beginning of installation, written into system inventory and is being used all the time in StarlingX system. My understanding is that it is less likely StarlingX provides an interface to change it after the system is deployed. Anyway, what’s your motivation to make such a change?? regards, Yong From: "Hernandez Gonzalez, Fernando" <fernando.hernandez.gonzalez@intel.com> Date: Friday, 25 January 2019 at 11:41 PM To: "starlingx-discuss@lists.starlingx.io" <starlingx-discuss@lists.starlingx.io> Subject: [Starlingx-discuss] Looking a command that changes Virtual host node MAC Addr. Hi Yong, Fernando, To register the new MAC address for Host Inventory management, the host must be deleted and re-added (not merely reinstalled). In general hardware changes can be made in this way for controller nodes: - swact away from the controller - system host-swact - host lock the controller - system host-lock - shutdown the controller machine - delete the controller - system host-delete - make hardware changes - power the machine, assign controller personality - system host- update - etc. install and configure. I am not prepared to offer a list of hardware changes requiring host- delete, but if you have questions please feel free post again to the list. M On Sun, 2019-01-27 at 03:09 +0000, Hu, Yong wrote:

Hi guys, thanks both of you. The motivation is because I am working with a Security Test Cases where at the end I am doing a backup and restore for a Virtual Dedicated Storage lab, our automation creates the nodes automatically and nodes' MAC Address are assigned randomly making the restore not get completed because of the mismatch of MAC Addresses. Based on your feedback I will proceed to specify MAC Addresses on .xmls nodes structures with a couple of some other tweaks seems to be simpler. Thanks. Hi Fernando, It sounds like you will need to update the automation in either choice you make. I have also been persisting my hosts' configurations, including the mac-addresses, so that I can power-off and even "destroy" the virtual machine. That's an option you may consider, either by not running virsh destroy command or by using the virsh dumpxml command. M $ sudo virsh dumpxml controller-0 | grep "mac.address" <mac address='52:54:00:12:7a:8f'/> <mac address='52:54:00:ff:74:ba'/> <mac address='52:54:00:6f:7f:21'/> <mac address='52:54:00:d4:26:c1'/> On Mon, 2019-01-28 at 17:07 +0000, Hernandez Gonzalez, Fernando wrote:
