[Starlingx-discuss] STX 1.0 automatically shutdown and power off.
Dear all, My STX 1.0 will be automatically shutdown and power off. Where could i check the logs about this issue? Thanks a lot.
Hi Ezpeer, Is it virtual machine or bare-metal system? Is it a provisioned system? And what is the system configuration, simplex/duplex or multi node? StarlingX itself will not do auto-shutdown, but it may auto-reboot if there is critical error. Most of StarlingX’s log is at /var/log folder. You could run “collect” cmd in your fail system after the issue occur, and upload the generated logfile to somewhere others could access. Then I will have a check with it. Hi Ezpeer, For the sm.log (/var/log/sm.log), it seems service process fail to run, and lead to sm think system is in unhealthy state, and try to reboot system to recover. It should be reboot, but not sure why it is shutdown in your environment and also auth.log shows “systemd-logind[893]: info Power key pressed./info Powering Off...” In the sm.log, I also see the network adapter is up/down randomly. It may be the cause of the service process failure. I also find VF Ethernet is enabled in the system also. To isolate the issue cause, could you help try to disable the VF Ethernet in BIOS, and use PF Ethernet only? Thanks. You could check whether your ISO is the same as this or not by looking at the build date in “/etc/build.info”.

Even i don't create VM , this issue still happened again.
My steps didn't create VM. (Last email)
Any stable STX 1.0 could download? or It is the latest version of STX 1.0.
Thanks a lot.

Hi Ezpeer,
I checked the log, it is the same reason as previous.
Have you tried to create VM without pci-sriov? Will the issue still occur?
If not, then we could narrow down to focus on the pci-sriov part.

Dear Shuicheng,
Update new information
I reinstall STX 1.0 (2018/10).
My installation Step:
1. Install STX 1.0 (2018/10) all-in-one simplex
2. Configure pci-sriov interface
# source /etc/nova/openrc #neutron providernet-create providernet-a --type=flat #neutron providernet-create providernet-b --type=vlan #neutron providernet-range-create --name providernet-b-range1 --range 100-400 providernet-b #system host-if-modify -c pci-sriov controller-0 enp2s0f0 -p providernet-a -N 7 #system host-if-modify -c data controller-0 enp2s0f1 -p providernet-b
.....configure storage
#system host-unlock controller-0
System auto reboot
3. After reboot to prompt, about 10-20 minutes issue occurred.

Hi Ezpeer,
For the sm.log (/var/log/sm.log), it seems service process fail to run, and lead to sm think system is in unhealthy state, and try to reboot system to recover.
It should be reboot, but not sure why it is shutdown in your environment and also auth.log shows “systemd-logind[893]: info Power key pressed./info Powering Off...”
In the sm.log, I also see the network adapter is up/down randomly. It may be the cause of the service process failure.
I also find VF Ethernet is enabled in the system also.
To isolate the issue cause, could you help try to disable the VF Ethernet in BIOS, and use PF Ethernet only?
Thanks.
Best Regards

Dear Shuicheng,
Platform: STX 1.0 ( http://mirror.starlingx.cengn.ca/mirror/starlingx/r2018.10/centos/latest_bui... )
1. bare-metal system , MY host pc Controller-0 shutdown without reboot
2. provisioned system , all-in-one simplex
3. collet cmd log file:

Hi Ezpeer,
Is it virtual machine or bare-metal system?
Is it a provisioned system? And what is the system configuration, simplex/duplex or multi node?
StarlingX itself will not do auto-shutdown, but it may auto-reboot if there is critical error.
Most of StarlingX’s log is at /var/log folder.
You could run “collect” cmd in your fail system after the issue occur, and upload the generated logfile to somewhere others could access.
Then I will have a check with it.

Dear all, Update new information:
From IPMI Dashboard, i found the component "Inlet2" over temperature.
After i cool down this component with overnight testing, the issue haven't happened again. But the main problem is that i can't found any log or information about *why my StarlingX system shutdown*? If i install bare mental CentOS 7.6 with Kolla-Openstack and even the component "Inlet2" is over temperature, my system won't shutdown by itself. Thanks a lot.
